I'm very pleased to share with you the first, REAL bride story on GLAM BRIDES of Samantha and Joshua Scott . Sam, one of my own bridal customers whose Couture, wedding veil I created has kindly agreed to share her beautiful wedding on the Greek island of Santorini.
The couples, dream, wedding was not to be blighted by Covid-19, potential lockdowns and all the downfalls that came with 2020, they ploughed through and had the most amazing day to remember... reminding us love always finds a way!
Below, Sam tells us how the couple met, how Joshua proposed and a revisit of their special day, plus a look through their stunning photo gallery below!
Tell me about you as a couple, how did you both meet?
My HUSBAND (still feels great to say it), Josh and I met at 17 and instantly felt an intense pull towards one another. Though life took us on separate paths for a few years, there was no force on this earth that was strong enough to keep us apart for long.
Josh is literally my dream come true. He’s kind, funny, SO compassionate, honest and smart - it’s honestly as though I’ve found a unicorn!
And just when I thought he couldn’t be any more dreamy - he pulled off a surprise proposal in Mauritius, as the sun set on the crystal clear water in front of our private jetty dinner for two. To this day, he’s still the best decision I’ve ever made. The second best decision was choosing to marry in Santorini, of course!
What made you both choose Santorini?
The blue, heaven-like view of the Caldera sea. If you’ve ever been lucky enough to see it then you’ll get it - it’s truly breathtaking.
How did 2020 and the dreadful pandemic affect your wedding?
Without a doubt, COVID-19 ruined the excitement of the lead up to our wedding. I spent months with crippling anxiety, going back and forth in my head with the “will it happen, won’t it happen?” scenarios. Painful hours spent scouring the internet for hope and reassurance, which I seldom found.
However, despite all of this, Josh and I both had a gut feeling that told us to keep going (which was unsurprising given how tenacious we both are) and I am SO glad we did. On the 7th September 2020 the stars aligned for us, and we married on the beautiful island of Santorini, in the presence of our favourite people - in a Global Pandemic! Poetically, this made it even more beautiful than my wildest dreams. 🥺️
How did you both cope with the threat of the Pandemic on the year of your wedding
For weeks, the British government had been reviewing the travel corridors every Thursday, with changes taking effect from the Saturday. The ONLY exception to this, OF COURSE, being our wedding week. Instead, the government review took place on our wedding day - taking effect from just 2 days after. Honestly, as if the last 5 months hadn’t been torturous enough, right?! You couldn’t write it. But given the universe was on our side, we all laughed at the news as we danced the night away, knowing we would all skid back into Britain sideways having JUST missed the quarantine deadline. Again, poetic.
What was a particular highlight of your day?
A special moment of the wedding day was around 10am when Joshua's mum (now my Mother-In-Law!) gave me a handwritten card. Inside, Joshua had written the most beautiful poem - here’s a snippet:
“You never met my Granny Dot, but had you done, she’d have loved you a lot. Her Sapphire ring will be with you as your something borrowed and something blue, but after that, I’m giving it to you.”
I looked up and inside a small, love heart-shaped ring box that MIL was holding, the most STUNNING, sapphire, diamond ring was looking back at me. Needless to say I cried my eyes out. So special. It’s a moment I will never forget!
If you could give advice to any brides to be planning their wedding in Santorini in 2021 what would it be?
Having planned and executed a destination wedding during a Global Pandemic (we worked HARD to be able to say that!) here is my advice - Every problem has a solution darling, but hiring a planner will help you find that solution quicker. Enjoy the ride, no matter how bumpy - you have no idea of the magic that awaits you
